I read it because they occasionally offer me free subscriptions.
Mostly, I read it for the jokes and The Advisor, although I appreciate
their liberal politics (they and Howard Stern are doing a lot of good
for the left, like 'em or not).

I won't deny that they've had a couple of photo shoots I like (Dita
von Teese, Diora Baird) but as far as pr0n goes, it's not good value
for money. Especially if you don't like the airbrushed
shaved-and-fakes look. Arny Freytag is a really uninspired
photographer and they let him do too much.

But in this digital age, who walks into a physical bookstore anymore? ^_^

Seriously though, I agree with Liz that a URL for a flier ought to do.
I respect your disagreement, but with so many people still on
dial-up, I think allowing image posting would do more to drive people
off the list than it would to help promote.

Well, everybody did.

This was in the early days of Laga, before they had a sound system
installed. Diatribe would have been one of their first bands. Long
story short, we agreed that the venue would provide sound, which they
planned to install before the show.

Well, cut to 9:00 the night of the show; it's an hour after doors were
supposed to open and the owner is still trying to get the sound to
work. Diatribe took off with their guarantee, rightfully so; but at
least gave me a t-shirt, which I "proudly" tout as my "two hundred
dollar tee."

On the bright side, we got the sound working and Mindless Faith played
a nice set to folks who helped cut my losses a little.

For my second (and last) show, I brought the Cruxshadows to town for
the first time (their first tour ever, I think). I gave them $200,
the venue and sound more, and about twenty people came (and I'm
grateful) despite fairly aggressive fliering. Mosty of their current
fans would have been, like, eight years old then, so I can hardly
blame them.
