there are plenty of dark music concerts happening around the week of
Halloween so you absolutely should not lack for activities.
in addition to Bella Morte appearing at Dominion on Oct 28 at the 31st
Street Pub, here
are the others:
Fri Oct 29
PEG SIMONE - alter ego of Debi Catanzaro, once the frontwoman for
Pittsburgh punk bands The Pleasure Heads and Wormhole. She's reinvented
herself in NYC as Gothic-Americana chanteuse, essentially like a female
Nick Cave. Her debut on the famed Table of the Elements label (known for
releases by Faust, Rhys Chatham, Lee Ranaldo etc) is "Secrets From The
Storm": "a gripping tour-de-force of penumbral willies, sepulchral gasps,
jellyroll swagger, and bristling guitar that flashes up like a steel wolf
trap in the moonlight...you want to drink it and let it drip down your
neck." says Black Francis (The Pixies).
with JOSHUA ABRAMS (solo bass, Chicago, on Delmark Records)
HOLLY ANDERSON (spoken word from Brooklyn) and TOM MORAN (of The Five and
Deliberate Strangers, on self-built oud).
7 pm. $10 at the door. all ages. byob. Garfield Artworks, 4931 Penn
Avenue. done by 10 pm so you can go do other stuff.
Sat Oct 30
HUGH CORNWELL - needs little introduction as the legendary frontman for UK
postpunks The Stranglers. His new album is "Totem & Taboo" but he'll also
be playing tracks from the classic
Stranglers album "Rattus Norvegicus" and others. His band includes the
drummer from Blondie
(Clem Burke) and a former bassist for NYC no-wavers James White & the Blacks.
with THIN SKETCH and DRUGULA (who will also each play one Stranglers song
with Cornwell!)
9 pm. $10 advance, $12 door (tickets at www.thunderbirdcafe.net)
21+. Thunderbird Cafe, 4023 Butler St., Lawrenceville.
Tue Nov 2
LEGENDARY PINK DOTS - the 30th anniversary for this iconic group that has
retained an immense
cult following straddling the lines between goth, electronic, space-rock,
progressive, and realms
of experimentation. New album "Seconds Late for the Brighton Line" on the
ROIR label (which has released the likes of Einsturzende Neubauten and Bad
Brains). This time around, they're a four-piece lineup but still with
original members Edward Ka-Spel and The Silverman. Sing while you may!
with JORDAN DECAY. $20 advance, $25 door (tickets at www.thunderbirdcafe.net)
21+. Thunderbird Cafe, 4023 Butler St., Lawrenceville.
